Ridge Three Valleys

Wines from Ridge Vineyards were some of the first I had over a decade ago that made me fall in love with wine and start to understand just what the good stuff is.  I have been fortunate to visit Ridge Vineyards in Sonoma and taste through many of their wines. I was excited to try this wine, which looked to be a unique and exciting blend, and work my way through an entire bottle seeing what it had to offer.  The Three Valleys is Ridge’s only multi-vineyard wine coming from three of the finest appellations in Sonoma County.

In the glass, the wine is a dark plum color with a concentrated darker core and some translucency. The initial nose on the wine is of dark fruits, blackberry, dark cherry, some vanilla, and the earth notes of pepper, spice, light cloves, and leather.  On the palate, the wine coats your mouth with the heavier Zin giving you dark fruits, some nice spice notes, and medium-plus tannins.  The wine also has a long finish that stays in your mouth a while. In short this is a big, bold, but smooth wine with great complexity of the multiple varietals.

As usual – a Ridge wine does not disappoint. Anytime you’re looking for a great California Zin or Zin heavy blend you simply can’t go wrong with a bottle from this vineyard.
