Cantine Valpane Canone Inverso

Cantine Valpane makes many varietals of wine and I intend to try them all.  I decided to start with the Rosa Ruske which is the Italian varietal Ruche which I have never had. And now I’m on to the Canone Inverso which is Fresia…another new varietal to me.

• Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and lasts 21-23 days
• Aged 12-18 months in stainless steel and cement tanks before bottling
• Aged 6 months in bottle before release

In the glass the wine is deep ruby, dark but clear and clean. After a quick 30 min decant the nose is very rustic, barnyard, funk, soft spice, dark fruits, blackberry, dark cherry.  The wine tastes of dark tart cherries, with med plus tannins, pretty grippy, dry with a long finish. I left the wine in the decantor for evening, wine really mellows out after some time. Starts very earthy and rustic, transitions to more dark fruits. Early nose could easily be mistaken for French Cab Franc.
