From the Wine Over Water website:

Wine Over Water is Tennessee’s premier wine-tasting festival. You can sample wines from over 100 world wineries, while you stroll the historic Walnut Street Bridge, which spans the scenic Tennessee river. Built in 1890, it’s one of the world’s longest pedestrian bridges and was the first bridge to link Downtown Chattanooga to the North Shore. It is also the first non-military highway bridge to cross the Tennessee river.

Throughout the festival, area restaurants will offer a variety of tasting plates for purchase. Enjoy wine selections from all corners of the globe, while talented regional musicians entertain you with everything from jazz to classic bluegrass.

Friday evening is our premier wine tasting event from Best Cellars and it’s held in celebration of our festival sponsors. Sample from 150 exceptional premium wines and enjoy heavy hors o’deuvres and an incredible silent auction. Tickets are available for purchase but this venue is extremely limited and tickets are only available on-line.

Chatt Wine will be at both events – We hope to see you there!

Arcadian Sleepy Hollow Pinot Noir 2008

Last week we attended the Arcadian Wine tasting for Avant Art, and were able to taste through a nice selection of Arcadian’s Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.  These are very impressive wines overall from the Santa Barbra wine region. I was particularly impressed with the Sierra Madre Chardonnay and the Sleepy Hollow Pinot Noir.  Arcadian is producing high quality California wines, made with great care resulting in a pleasurable drinking experience.

Arcadian winemaker Joe Davis says this about the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard – Every year Sleepy Hollow Vineyard faces the most difficult set of challenges from Mother Nature. Our piece at the top of the hill in set A does not get much sunlight and lives much of the time in the fog and wind. To take advantage of the reduced sunlight we separate the foliage from the fruiting zone to get more direct light onto the berries and to thicken the skins. These set of vines are susceptible to botrytis and mildew and more recently mealy bug infestation. Mother Nature’s constant attack on these vines is a supreme challenge to the concept of winegrowing and often is the most satisfying work that I do.

In the glass the Sleepy Hollow Pinot is a nice translucent ruby. The nose of the wine is dark cherry, light spices, and fresh earth. The wine is really nice and smooth in the mouth with flavors of dark fruit forward on the palate, well balanced and easy to drink. This is top notch California Pinot Noir, feels very old world influenced, very enjoyable wine.
